¿Sobre qué base?
Sobre qué base fue fijado el torno en el que
giró esta esfera y moldeó sus encajaduras?
¿Quién avivó con fuelles Sus vastos Hornos,
o quién sostuvo el molde donde el mundo fue fundido?
¿Quién puso su piedra angular o a quiénes mandó?
¿Dónde yacen los pilares sobre los cuales permanece?
¿Quién delineó y bordeó la Tierra con hermosura,
con ríos semejantes a verdes cintas del color de las esmeraldas?
¿Quién hizo los mares y les puso límites, quién contuvo las aguas
como a un ovillo de tela en una caja plateada?
¿Quién extendió sus doseles o quién hiló sus cortinas?
¿Quién a este sendero arrojó el sol?

Upon what base was fixed the lathe wherein

He turned this globe and rigolled it so trim?

Who blew the bellows of His Furnace vast?

Or held the mold wherein the world was cast?

Who laid its cornestone? Or whose command?

Where stand the pillars upon which it stands?

Who laced and filleted the earth so fine

With rivers like green ribbons smaragdine?

Who made the seas its selvage, and its locks

Like a quilt ball within a silver box?

Who spread its canopy? Or curtains spun?

Who in this bowling alley bowled the sun?
